OpenSUSE 11.0 - Nurnberg down.
I’m trying to install OpenSUSE 11.0 in the vain hope that it solves Firefox slowdowns.. (I use my PC for 99% browsing in this period and I can’t stand slowdowns in the browser on a dual-core with an 8800GT).
Of course I’ve chosen the right day to upgrade.. OpenSUSE servers are down due to electrical problems in the city of Nurnberg. I will have to wait tomorrow to know if it solved or not.
The setup has vastly improved since OpenSUSE 10.3 and is very quick.. let’s hope Firefox with Compiz is fixed too.
Update: not even needed to get to Compiz. Firefox performance on Linux is doomed
Update-2: OpenSUSE 11 seems usable as far as Firefox performance go. Maybe it’s the distro, maybe the fact that I installed a 64bit version, maybe the fact that I didn’t switch between Gnome/KDE, but it works and goes quite fast - not anywhere fast as on Windows but acceptable, only few websites get frustrating. For the rest OpenSUSE 11 seems a great distro so far, I will follow up with any issues in the future.
